Biome Overview

The world of Romestead is divided into 5 distinct biomes, each with increasing difficulty and unique resources. Players always spawn in the Plains at the center of the map and must explore outward to find higher-tier content.

Each biome has different resource availability, enemy types, and building restrictions. Some buildings work differently or not at all in certain biomes.

  • Plains - Safe starter area, best for first base
  • Forest - Dense, hard to build in, but has unique resources
  • Desert - Scarce resources, powerful enemies, first big challenge
  • Volcano - Extremely dangerous, end-game area
  • Swamp - Unfinished in Early Access, high Wraith spawn rate

Biome Progression Matrix

Route order matters more than biome names. Use the matrix to scan difficulty, resource value, boss pressure, and building risk before travelling.

Which Romestead biome should you visit next?

The safe route is Plains first, Forest when you need more materials, Desert biome after early gear, Swamp only for careful scouting, and Volcano last. Do not treat every biome as equal progression.

BiomeWhen to GoWhy It Matters
PlainsStart hereBuild the first settlement, collect basic resources, and prepare for Guardian of Minerva.
ForestVisit after Plains basicsUse it for extra materials, but avoid forcing your main base into dense terrain.
Desert biomeGo after early gearTreat the Romestead desert biome as the first major difficulty jump, with Pyzifax and Cyclops routes.
SwampScout carefullyThe Romestead swamp is unfinished in Early Access and has a high Wraith spawn rate.
VolcanoSave for late gameThe Romestead volcano is the danger zone; enter only with strong food, armor, and weapons.

Romestead Biomes FAQ

What are the Romestead biomes?

The main Romestead biomes covered here are Plains, Forest, Desert, Volcano, and Swamp. Plains is the safest start, Desert is the first major spike, Swamp is unfinished, and Volcano is late-game danger.

When should I enter the Romestead desert biome?

Enter the desert biome after your Plains base, food, armor, and weapon loop are stable. Desert has scarce resources, stronger enemies, and boss progression pressure.

Is the Romestead swamp finished?

The Swamp is marked as unfinished in the current Early Access data. It still has resources and enemies, but it should be treated as risky scouting content rather than a stable progression base.

When should I visit the Romestead volcano?

Visit the Volcano late. It is the most dangerous listed biome here, so bring strong armor, cooked food, reliable weapons, and a clear reason to enter.
